Each Character Holds A World
From ancient oracle bones to modern script, the wisdom lives on
Take 中 (zhōng)—balance at the center of all things. The character embodies the very heart of Chinese philosophy: to find balance, not excess, in all things.
It began as a simple symbol in oracle bone inscriptions: a flag planted at the heart of the world. The outer square—a circle, really—is the Great Way: the rhythm of the universe, moving in harmony.
The line through its heart? That is the art of balance— to stand at the center without losing yourself, to hold both the whole and the one, the nation and the home, the many and the self.
Over millennia, this symbol evolved into a reminder: true harmony lies in the middle way. Each character, a meditation— healing the heart, leading to the essence of harmony.
